Newport Youth Film Festival is run by a team of
four committee members. Imogen Stroud, Jess Martin, Michael Stewart and Jenny Mitchell are all Newport locals who have a background in film, event management, and the Folk Festival
Imogen is a film student and previous winner of the Newport Youth Film Festival. She is very proud to be the director of the festival this year, and is excited for the opportunities this festival gives to budding film makers. Imogen is also an advocate of depression, anxiety and mental illness.
Jess has been involved in the film festival since it's beginning. She finds it "honestly rewarding" to be given a window into the minds and thoughts of young people through film. Each and every year the festival receives a range of entries, from stop motion to documentaries.
"Even if you are unsure what others think about your film, open your mind and submit your film today." -Jess Martin
Reece is new to the festival this year. He has recently received a Bachelor in Screen Production from the University of Canberra and hopes to one day become a producer. Over the past few years, he has written and directed a couple of student productions and been an extra in many others. In his free time, he enjoys creating, volunteering and seeing all the wonderful things that Melbourne has to offer.
Jenny Mitchell has been an enthusiastic MIFF member for longer than she cares to remember and spends 3 weeks every winter buried in the Melbourne International Film Festival to catch up on the wide range of fascinating films the world has to offer. She is keen to encourage young people’s interest in films and sees the Newport Youth Film Festival as an event where filmmakers can demonstrate their talents. Jenny is an inaugural member of the Newport Community Choir and volunteers at the Newport Folk Festival each year.
